Environmental Fast Facts

  • Chemical Reduction

    Chemical Reduction

We reduced process chemical usage by 2,798 pounds.

Fruit of the Loom, Inc. has documented over 923 process improvement projects that have allowed us to make great strides in reducing the amount of waste we generate, as well as the amount of process chemicals and water used in daily operations.

  • Energy Conservation

    Energy Conservation

In 2013, 18 individual projects resulted in a reduction in our consumption of electricity by over 5.7 million kilowatt hours. This resulted in a reduction of over 3,914 metric tons of CO2e.

Our fuel oil usage was reduced by over 1,910 gallons.

  • Packaging Efficiency

    Packaging Efficiency

By actively limiting the amount of packaging materials used for transporting and marketing our products, we reduced cardboard consumption in packaging by 21,405 tons (the equivalent of 4,756 elephants).

Two of our facilities in Honduras are ISO 14000 certified.

Facts based on FY2011 at Fruit of the Loom, Inc.

  • Transportation

Through improved container optimization and reduced travel miles, we reduced trucking distances by 227,256 miles (the same as traveling around the world 9.1 times).

We reduced total Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions by 6,571 metric tons CO2e (the equivalent of GHG emissions from 1,383 passenger vehicles).

CO2e (carbon dioxide equivalent) is calculated by multiplying the emissions of each GHG by its 100-year global warming potential. GHGs trap the heat of the sun in the atmosphere, creating a rise in temperature and warming effect on the Earth.

  • Waste Recycling

    Waste Recycling

In 2013, we recycled 84 percent of our total waste.

Through aggressive recycling of cloth and yarn by-products, in-process materials and cotton fiber reutilization, we reduced waste generation by 93.5 tons (equal to the amount of waste produced annually by 41,555 people).

We recycled over 93,382,048 pounds of waste (equivalent to the weight of the Titanic).

  • Water Conservation

Our water consumption was reduced by 280,593 gallons.
